Side note: I know I’ve complained about Logan Lerman being too old to play Percy Jackson, (he’s 21 playing a supposed 12-year-old in Sea of Monsters), but would you just look at him? Let’s be honest, if the movie is terrible, I won’t regret paying for a ticket to watch him on the big screen for two hours, just saying. I’ve always pictured smaller, pony-sized creatures carrying Percy and his friends on their current adventure, but these look magnificent, as do all of the other special effects, especially the ocean shots, shown in the previews.Īnd can we get a round of applause for whoever casted Stanley Tucci as Dionysus? I LOVE Stanley Tucci, he can do no wrong as an actor–loved him in The Devil Wears Prada, Julie and Julia, and especially loved him as Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games. He brings so much energy into the roles he plays, and I cannot wait to see his sarcastic take on the God of Wine (See image to the right). Holy hippocampi! Half fish, half horse, I was curious to see how the sea animals would translate to the big screen (see image to the right). Now, let’s talk about the actual trailer. And based on the new international trailer, I honestly feel that the creative team behind this movie actually read the source material. However, now that all Percy Jackson fans know not to have high expectations for second installment in the movie franchise, I think Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters will be more enjoyable to watch. Those differences are just the tip of the iceberg of atrocities committed by the creators of The Lightning Thief, and an entire book could be written just discussing the book-to-movie changes alone.
As amazing of an actor as Logan Lerman is, he wasn’t 11 when he starred in The Lightning Thief, like Percy was supposed to be, and Alexandra Daddario, who plays Annabeth, didn’t even dye her hair blonde for the role. Go browsing on the internet, and you will find that 99% of the book fandom agrees with me. As an avid Percy Jackson and the Olympians fan, I thought that The Lightning Thief movie adaptation was completely terrible and an utter train-wreck to those who love the books.
